WOMEN'S GOLF PREVIEW: 2025-26 Season Begins Minus Two Key Ingredients

Erie, Pa. – The 2025-26 season begins for the Gannon women's golf team without two key pieces of the 2024-25 squad. The first is fairly obvious. Three-time PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year and PSAC champion Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) has moved on after a brilliant career.

It is safe to say Petersen will be inducted into the Gannon Athletics Hall of Fame before long. But the second key loss for head coach Scott Stano's squad is already a member of the Gannon Hall of Fame.

Joe Mattis served as a volunteer assistant coach for over ten years, helping the Golden Knights to eight PSAC Championships. He was a valuable asset for Stano as a coach, confidant and team historian. But late this spring Mattis passed away following a brief illness.

"Overall we are excited for the season," Stano commented. "We are dedicating this year to our assistant coach Joe. We know he will be watching down and rooting us on. This group will work hard and reach all our goals this year. We will make him proud on and off the golf course."

Stano must not only replace Petersen but also lost three-time All-PSAC honoree Andrea Gonzalez to graduation. But fear not. The cupboard isn't bare as Gannon looks to continue its stranglehold on the PSAC. The Golden Knights have won an unprecedented six straight PSAC Championships.

Head Coach:
Scott Stano, (2nd year as men's coach; 11th year as women's golf coach)
Stano has built a PSAC dynasty with the women's golf program. He has guided the Golden Knights to an unprecedented six consecutive PSAC Championships. In the process he has now been named the PSAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year the last three years, six of the last seven seasons and seven times overall (2016-17, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25). A year ago he also began overseeing the men's golf team and was named the PSAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the men's team to its first-ever conference title.

Top Returnees:
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) (Jr.): Mateo is one of two returning first team All-PSAC performers. The junior from Spain is now a two-time first team honoree and was named the PSAC Freshman of the Year in 2023-24. Mateo averaged 78.9 over 26 rounds with three top-5 finishes and four in the top 10. That included a tie for third at the PSAC Championships.

Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) (R-Jr.): Lecureux joined Mateo on the All-PSAC first team and continued Gannon's tradition of Freshman of the Year golfers. A Gannon golfer has now been named the Freshman of the Year for six straight years. LeCureux finished in the top ten in five tournaments, including a tie for third at the PSAC Championships. She ended the year with a 79.2 average over 28 rounds.

Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) (Sr.):  Donahue forged a spot in the lineup a year ago and went on to average 83.0 over 25 rounds. That included two 10th-place finishes for the senior.

Top Newcomers:
Stano has just one newcomer on his roster but Anastasia Lopes (Noverasco di opera (MI), Italy/ISTITUTI DEAMICIS MILANO) has impressed him enough in qualifying rounds to earn the third spot in the lineup for the UC Invitational.
