Three-Peat for Petersen, Stano as PSAC Athlete, Coach of the Year

Four Golden Knights earn All-PSAC accolades

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Gannon University women's golf team has swept the PSAC's major postseason awards for the third straight year and fourth time in the last five years.  The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced its 2024-25 postseason awards this afternoon.

Scott Stano was selected the PSAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the third straight season, Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) made it three straight years as the Women's Golf Athlete of the Year, and Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) was voted the Freshman of the Year. Four Golden Knights were named to the All-PSAC teams. Petersen, LeCureux and Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) were accorded first team honors while Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) earned a spot on the second team.

Stano led Gannon to an unprecedented sixth straight PSAC championship after the Golden Knights pulled away to win the PSAC Championship by 20 strokes over West Chester in April. It was one of three tournaments Gannon won in 2024-25, along with the Michael Corbett Fall Classic and the Cav Classic. The Golden Knights also had three second-place showings.

Stano was also named the PSAC Men's Golf Coach of the Year, becoming the first coach to win both awards in the same year. The women's golf coach since the 2015-16 season, he has now been named the PSAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year six of the last seven seasons and seven times overall (2016-17, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25).

Petersen becomes just the second PSAC women's golfer to win a major award four times and the first to earn a major award all four years of her career. In addition to being selected the Player of the Year the last three years she was the Freshman of the Year in 2020-21. She becomes a four-time first team All-PSAC honoree.

Petersen joins California (Pa.)'s Carla Maestre as the only players to be named Player of the Year three times. Maestre was voted the Player of the Year in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16, and was also the Freshman of the Year in 2013-14.

This marks the fifth straight year a Golden Knight has claimed Golfer of the Year honors, with Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) winning the award the two years prior to Petersen. The only other Gannon golfer to capture the award was Diana Munoz in 2016-17.

A native of Denmark, Petersen led the Golden Knights with a 76.3 average over 26 rounds, including 22 rounds in the 70's and eight of 75-or-less. She finished in the top five in six tournaments, winning three times. She won the PSAC Championship for the third consecutive season with a 17-over par total of 233. In addition, she was the medalist in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational and the Cav Classic.

Petersen concluded her career with seven first-place finishes to tie the school record for most wins in a career.

A Gannon golfer has now been named the Freshman of the Year for six straight years. LeCureux is the latest recipient after finishing in the top ten in five tournaments, including a tie for third at the PSAC Championships. She ended the year with a 79.2 average over 26 rounds, with 12 rounds in the 70's.

Mateo joins Petersen and LeCureux on the All-PSAC first team. The sophomore from Spain was a first team selection in 2023-24 as well as being named the Freshman of the Year. She tied LeCureux for second on the team with a 79.2 average over 24 rounds. That included a pair of third-place showings. She tied for third in the PSAC Championships along with coming in third at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic.

Like Mateo, Martinez hails from Spain. The senior is now a three-time All-PSAC honoree after earning first team accolades in 2022-23 and 2023-24. She averaged 79.6 over 26 rounds. Martinez had three top-ten finishes including a second-place showing at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic and fourth at the Cav Classic.
