Golden Knights Jump into Lead after Second Round at NCAA Div. II Atlantic/East Regional

All four scorers shoot 73 or better as Gannon holds six stroke lead

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's golf team vaulted into first place at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional on Friday afternoon following an outstanding second round. The four scoring Golden Knights combined for an impressive one-over par 289 total to pull Gannon ahead of Davis & Elkins.

Gannon was tied for second place with California (Pa.) after Thursday's opening 18 holes. The 20 competing teams were forced to wait out an hour-and-a-half frost delay and the teams ended up going over No. 10 tee instead of number one. Despite the delay coupled with Thursday's 299 total the Golden Knights turned a five-stroke deficit into a six-stroke lead over D&E. Gannon shows a 36-hole total of 12-over par 588 while the Senators are at 18-over par 594 after shooting 300 on Friday.

Director of Golf Scott Stano is looking to guide the Golden Knights to a second straight Atlantic/East Regional crown in his first season at the helm. The final round at Whispering Woods Golf Club tees off at 7:30 a.m., conditions permitting. Gannon's golfers will take to the course at 12:40 p.m., paired with Davis & Elkins and Charleston (WV), who is in third place with Adelphi at 34-over par.

THREE GOLDEN KNIGHTS IN TOP TEN
Davis & Elkins' Aiden Talent maintained his lead in the individual race, although a host of golfers are nipping at his heels. Talent followed up an opening round 4-under 68 with a 1-over 73 on Friday for a 36-hole total of 141, 3-under par.

Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) leads a contingent of three Gannon linksters in the top eight, sitting two strokes back at 143, 1-under par. The redshirt sophomore from Sweden shot 1-under 71 after an even-par 72 on the opening day. His round included five birdies, including three in a row on holes three through five. Seppanen finished with birdies on two of the par 5's on Friday after birdieing all four par 5's the day before.

All four of Gannon's scorers shot 73 or better on Friday. Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) followed up a 73 with an even-par 72 on Friday and is in fifth place at 1-over 145. Parrini had a consistent round with two birdies, two bogeys, and 14 pars.

Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) and Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) both shot 73's. Delorenzi is tied for eighth at 4-over par 148. Delorenzi had three birdies, all on the back nine. Ruppert made the biggest jump of the day for the Golden Knights, After coming home with a 79 in the opening round he moved up 33 spots and is in a tie for 20th at 8-over par 152. Ruppert matched Seppanen with five birdies.
