Seppanen Remains in Top 20 Following 36 Holes at NCAA Div. II National Championships

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Gannon Director of Men's Golf Scott Stano was hoping his Golden Knights would make a move on day two of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships. That was not the case, however, as the Golden Knight labored through a tough morning 18 holes and enter Wednesday's final 18 holes in 19th place.

The Golden Knights were tied for 13th place following Monday's opening round after shooting 9-over par 297. But they followed that up with a 19-over total of 307 for a 36-hole total of 604, 19-over par.

The opening three days at the PGA National Champions Course consist of a 54-hole stroke play tournament. Twenty teams and eight individual qualifiers teed off on Monday for the opening 18 holes. The top eight teams will advance to Thursday's head-to-head medal play tournament. PGA National Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. is serving as the host for the five-day event.

While the Golden Knights were unable to make a move the leaderboard saw plenty of change. Missouri S&T opened the day ten strokes behind opening-round leader St. Mary's (TX) but climbed into first place following a 280 total to end 36 holes at 7-under par 569. That is three strokes better than St. Mary's (TX) and West Florida who are tied for second at 4-under 572. Colorado Christian sits at even-par 576.

Colton Schwartz of Florida Southern and North Georgia's Hunter Smith are tied for the individual lead at 6-under par 138. Smith had the low round of the day with a 67.

Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) leads Gannon's contingent of golfers with an even-par score of 144. The redshirt sophomore from Sweden followed up an opening-round 70 with a 74 on Tuesday. Seppanen was seventh after 18 holes and climbed as high as sixth during the round before dropping into a tie for a 18th. With four birdies in his first ten holes along with a pair of bogies, Sepannen sat at 4-under par before finishing with a double bogey and two bogies.

Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) opened with an even-par 72 but also dropped four strokes on day two, finishing with a 3-over par 76. The junior dipped from a tie for 18th into a tie for 46th.

The Golden Knights will complete play in the 54-hole event on Wednesday, teeing off at 7:30 p.m. Stano noted that he fully expects his team to rebound from a frustrating day on Tuesday to post their best round on Wednesday.
