GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Gannon women's golf team didn't let cold conditions impact its performance in day two of the ODU NC4K Classic at Pinnacle Golf Club. In fact, the Golden Knights thrived as the second round wrapped up on Tuesday.
Gannon finished third in the 36-hole event, of which most of the Golden Knights played 27 on Monday then returned to complete the second 18 holes on Tuesday. Two Golden Knights finished in the top five, with
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) tied for second and
Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) fifth. Playing as an individual,
Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) fell just outside the top ten in a tie for 11th.
Ferris State took home first place in the 16-team field. The Bulldogs totaled 307 in the first 18 holes and 301 in the final 18 for a 608 total (32-over par). Grand Valley State held a three-stroke lead after the initial 18 holes with a 304 total and shot 314 over the second 18 to finish 10 strokes behind Ferris State at 618. (42-over par).
Gannon finished with a 308 total over the final 18 holes, ten strokes better than Monday's 318. The Golden Knights finished at 626, 50-over par.
Ferris State's Lizzie Anderson fired her second straight 75 to finish at 150 (6-over par) to capture the individual crown. Mateo tied for the lowest round of the day at 74 after a 77 her opening round to finish in a tie for second at 151, one stroke behind Anderson. Brook Herbstreit of Saginaw valley State had the first-round lead after shooting a 71 but shots an 80 over the second 18 to tie Mateo for second.
Petersen was also in the hunt for the title before double-bogeying her second-to-last hole, the par-5 second hole. The senior still shot a 78 following a 75 on the opening day to finish at 153 (+9), good for fifth place.
A pair of Golden Knights made huge jumps over the final 18 holes.
Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) followed an 86 on round one with a 76 to move up 26 spots. She finished in a tie for 29th place at 162 (+18).
Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) moved up 23 spots, shooting an 80 over the second round after an opening-round 93. She came in tied for 57th.
