Golden Knights Win Sixth Straight PSAC Championship!

Petersen first three-time PSAC champion

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team made it six straight PSAC championships on Sunday as the Golden Knights closed out the 2025 PSAC Championships with a 54-hole total of 966, 102-over par. That was 20 strokes better than second-place West Chester (986). Millersville was a distant third at 1003 (+139).

Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) became the first women's golfer to finish as the medalist in three straight PSAC Championships. The senior from Denmark finished with a 79 over the final 18 holes to win by six strokes with a 17-over par 233 total. She was the only golfer in the field of 52 to shoot in the 70's in all three rounds. She opened with a 78, followed by a 76 on Saturday.

Ditte Petersen 2025 PSAC ChampionsThe win was the third this season for Petersen and the seventh of her career. That ties Diana Munoz for the most wins in Gannon history.

Three Golden Knights finished in the top five as Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) finished in a three-way tie for third. Kutztown's Brooke Graham placed second at 23-over 239. Mateo finished with an 82 on Sunday for a 26-over par total of 242. The freshman from Spain finished second a year ago. LeCureux, a freshman, ended the day with an 83 to also total 242.

Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) rounded out Gannon's contingent as the duo finished in a tie for 12th at 252 (+36). Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) was Gannon's substitute.

WEST CHESTER, WIND POSED CHALLENGES
Head coach Scott Stano's team had to overcome a stern challenge from the Rams, and all ten participating teams had to face the Berkleigh Golf Club that seemed set up to U.S. Open standards at times. Throw in strong winds of over 20 mph and the 20-stroke win over West Chester was impressive.

A year ago Gannon became the first team to win five straight women's golf championships. The 2025 crown is the ninth overall for the Golden Knights, the most ever in the PSAC. Gannon's streak ranks among the top current championship streaks. Shippensburg has won 16 straight outdoor track & field championships and 14 consecutive men's indoor track & field titles, and Pitt-Johnstown has either won or shared nine straight men's wrestling crowns.

"Winning a conference championship is special and hard to do," related Stano. "This group will always be remembered as the group that won six straight.  Truly remarkable!"

BERKLEIGH SET UP ONE FOR THE AGES
Stano was quick to point out what a challenging venue Berkleigh Golf Club was. "In the four years of coming to Berkleigh, this was the most demanding and difficult it played. In years past you could play aggressive especially on par 5s.  This year it was not the case and the par 5s were the most difficult. The course played like an old school U.S. Open. It was extremely firm and fast with pars being great scores."

That was clearly evident in the fact Petersen was the lone golfer in the field to finish with three rounds in the 70's. She was one of only two golfers to finish under 80 in Friday's opening round, and on Saturday that number improved to just eight. Incredibly, Petersen was the only golfer to shoot in the 70's on Sunday, and there were only two 81's.

"Today played the most difficult," Stano noted. "Windy and at times very difficult to even control your golf ball.  A lot of hit and hope for good bounces. I'm very proud of the team to stick with the plan and not to get frustrated when a good shot was not rewarded."

Stano noted the final margin was not indicative of the challenge West Chester presented and he was more than a bit nervous heading into the final 18 holes. The Rams faded late, as did almost every golfer, and trailed by just 11 strokes heading into Sunday.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS AWAIT WORD ON REGIONAL BID
Gannon now awaits word on the field for the 2025 NCAA Division II East Regional. The qualifying teams will be announced on Monday at 5:00 p.m. Grand Valley State will host the East Regional on May 5-7 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
