Golden Knights Hold Four-Stroke Lead after First Round at PSAC Championships

Petersen in individual lead by a stroke

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team holds a four stroke lead after the opening 18 holes of the 2025 PSAC Championships. The 54-hole event is being held at the Berkleigh Golf Club.

The Golden Knights are seeking a sixth straight PSAC Championship but find themselves in the closest race after the first day since 2019. They finished with a total of 36-over par 324 to hold a four-stroke lead over West Chester, with the Rams at 328. Millersville is in third at 332 with Kutztown fourth at 338. Ten teams are taking part in the conference championships, with Shepherd fielding individual golfers.

During the run of five straight PSAC titles Gannon trailed Mercyhurst by two strokes after the first round in 2019 (played in the fall) and held a five-stroke lead over the Lakers in 2021.

A firm course led to challenging conditions. And high scores. Despite shooting a 6-over par 78 Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) holds a one-shot lead in the individual race. The senior is looking to win her third straight PSAC crown.

Incredibly, Petersen was one of just two players to break 80. Margaux Solis, of West Chester is a stroke back at 79 (+7).

Three Golden Knights are in the top ten and all five are in the top 14 in the field of 52 golfers. Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) is tied for seventh after shooting an 81 (+9) while Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) is tied for ninth with an 82 (+10).

LeCureux had two of Gannon's four birdies on the day. Three of those – by Petersen, LeCureux, and Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) – came on the -ar-4, 315-yard fourth hole. The Golden Knights did not have a birdie on the back nine but few did. Six of the nine holes on the back nine did not have a birdie.

Action continues on Saturday with the golfers teeing off beginning at 10:00 a.m. Gannon golfers begin at 12:10 a.m.
