ERIE, Pa. – Softball player
Abbey Girman (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and
Alex Bemis (Monroe, Ohio/Monroe), a member of the baseball team have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of April 20. The Gannon Student-Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Erie.
Girman enjoyed a record-breaking day on Saturday as Gannon split a doubleheader at California (Pa.). A senior outfielder from Bridgeville, Pa., Girman drove in a school-record eight runs as the Golden Knights handed Cal a 14-8 defeat.
Girman went 3-for-5 with a two-run single top open the scoring, followed by a grand slam and two-run double. In seven games during the week she was 7-for-19 with 4 runs and 8 RBIs, adding three walks and a stolen base.
Bemis is a sophomore from Monroe, Ohio who is currently starting at third base after beginning the year in center field. Gannon played four games against Seton Hill with Bemis going 5-for-13 with 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored. He had 2 doubles and 2 HRs, going deep in back-to-back games.
In Saturday's first game against the Griffins Bemis was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles and a homer.
