Golden Knights in Third Place after First Day of Cecil C. Spadafora IUP Invitational

INDIANA, Pa. – The first round of the Cecil C. Spadafora IUP Invitational finally came to an end on Tuesday following two weather delays plus plenty high winds and cold conditions. Host Indiana (Pa.) holds down the top spot after 18-holes at Indiana Country Club with a tightly bunched leaderboard.

The Crimson Hawks are at 21-over par 305 over the par 71 layout. Charleston (WV) is a stroke back at 306 while Gannon is third at 310. Pitt-Johnstown and Shepherd are tied for fourth at 312.

Pars were at a premium under the adverse conditions, with just 28 of the 78 golfers in the field shooting a sub-80 round. IUP's John Olsen holds the individual lead with a 1-over 72. That's one shot better Erik Ulvang of Charleston (WV) who shot a 73.

Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) survived a tough start to lead the Golden Knights at 5-over par 76. He went out at 41 but fired an even-par 35 on the back nine. His round included three birdies, two of those on par 5's. He sits in a tie for eighth.

Three Golden Knights fell just outside the top ten in a tie for 11th at 6-over par 77. They include Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium), and Kyle Westfall (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (Erie)). Westfall is playing as an individual.

The second round figures to be another battle with the weather conditions. It gets underway with a 12 noon shotgun start.
