Golden Knights Look to Continue Strong Play in Findianapolis Intercollegiate

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team will play for the second time this spring, competing in the Findianapolis Intercollegiate on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1.

Ten teams are expected to compete in the two-day, 54-hole event at Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Ind. They include Charleston (WV), Ferris State, Findlay, Gannon, Missouri St. Louis, Northwood, Ohio Dominican, Saginaw Valley State, Tiffin, University of Indianapolis. The teams will play 36 holes over the par 72 layout on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.

Gannon enters the tournament ranked ninth in the latest East Region rankings. The field features plenty of other top teams in the region, including Findlay (1st), UMSL (3rd), Tiffin (4th), UIndy (6th) and Ferris State (7th).

Head coach Scott Stano's squad opened the spring portion of its schedule just over two weeks ago tying for second out of nine teams in the Pawleys Island Beach Bash.

Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) and Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) tied for fourth among 50 golfers with a 36-hole total of 154, 10-over par. In fact, both shot identical scores of 76-78. Petersen, a native of Denmark, is the two-time defending PSAC champion and repeated as the PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Year. The senior averages a team-best 75.9 average over 15 rounds. LeCureux, a freshman, is next at 77.7 in 15 rounds.

Stano looks for another freshman to make an impact in the lineup this tournament. Gunnhildur Gunnarsdottir played as an individual at the Pawleys Island Beach Bash and placed seventh. She shot rounds of 78-77 and now has three straight rounds in the 70's. She has played 13 rounds and has an 84.2 average.
