PAWLEY'S ISLAND, SC - Day one of the Pawley's Island Beach Bash is in the books, and the spring portion of the schedule is now in full bloom. The Golden Knights took to the tee box this morning and finished the first round +26 as a team (top four on the scorecard), sitting in second place in the overall standings.
THE SCORECARDS
Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) -
+4 (76)
Despite a double bogey on the second hole and a tough first five pins, Petersen responded well. The senior birdied six and seven, as well as the eleventh hole (par four, three, four). A 76 on the card was tied for the best on the team on day one.
Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) -
+4 (76)
LeCureux had the other four over finish. The native of Clarkston, MI was even par (36) heading into the back nine after impressive birdies on five and seven. Holes eleven, twelve, and thirteen saw her shoot a combined four over, and an even par finish the rest of the way got her back to the clubhouse and ready for day two.
Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) -
+6 (78)
Like Petersen & LeCureux, Martinez took advantage of the 151 par three seventh and made her lone birdie of the day. A one over 37 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine ended her day with a 78, earning par on 11/18 holes.
Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) -
+12 (84)
A bogey on the second hole left Donahue searching for an early birdie, which she found on the 475 yard par five fifth hole. Another birdie followed on the twelfth, but the Grove City junior was bitten by two triple bogeys en route to a finish of twelve over par.
Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) -
+12 (84)
Following a double bogey on the second hole, Colemenares responded well by earning par over the next two holes. She would go on to card a bogey/double/bogey on the next three holes, shooting a 42 on both the front and back nine.
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) -
+13 (85)
Mateo failed to pick up a birdie in the opening round but secured pars on one, two, four and five in the front nine. Five more pars on the back finshed her card with an 85.
Gunnhildur Gunnarasdottir -
+6 (74)
With a 39 halfway through the round, Gunnarasdottir carded a birdie on the par four eleventh. The final three holes proved to be difficult, as bogeys on each left her with the same 39 on the back as well in a sound first round.
Samantha Turk (Euclid, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) (IND) -
+12 (80)
The sophomore suffered two triples and a quad bogey in her round, but was able to secure two birdies on the back nine to finish twelve over heading into day two.
The final day of the tournament begins Thursday morning.
