PAWLEY'S ISLAND, SC - Day one of the Pawley's Island Beach Bash is in the books, and the spring portion of the schedule is now in full bloom. The Golden Knights took to the tee box this morning and finished the first round +6 as a team (top four on the scorecard) as they head to day two.
THE SCORECARDS
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) -
E (72)
The Italian stared off the front nine at a blistering pace, earning birdies on holes four and nine (par 4 & 5) to shoot 34 going out. Bogeys on 10 and 18 to bookend the back nine left Delorenzi even for the day (72).
Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) - +1 (73)
Much like Delorenzi, Wareham began hot. Back to back birdies on three and four left him -2 early, though consecutive bogeys on the final two front holes had him even at the turn. He would birdie 13, but two more bogeys on the finishing five holes ended his day one over par.
Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) - +2 (74)
The redshirt sophomore struggled with the first and last hole of the round. Outside of that, Seppanen was dialed in. Despite going +4 combined on one, seventeen and eighteen, he found birdies on six and twelve to finish +2 after a round
Kyle Westfall (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (Erie)) -
+3 (75)
Westfall began the day with a birdie on two but was +3 the rest of the front nine. Bogeys on three, four, and eight left the Erie native little room for error. But despite a double bogey on fifteen, he rebounded with a birdie straight after to finish four over heading into the final round.
Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) - +5 (77)
Two doubles and a birdie highlighted an up and down front nine for Parrini, who was able to settle in coming back to the clubhouse. A score of 37 on the back nine led to a +5 overall for the round.
Jacob Wolak (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) - +11 (83)
Wolak birdied 12, but was unable to enter red numbers on any other hole, ending the day with an 83.
Dylan Flinchbaugh (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) - +4 (76)
Continuing his junior season, Flinchbaugh started right out of the gate with a birdie on one, and another on the par four fourth hole. Four bogeys and a double the rest of the day brought his score over par, but a still respectable 76 earned him a solid first day in the competition.
Vincent Lenze (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys Area) (IND) - +11 (83)
A difficult triple left Lenze three over after one hole. He would birdie ten and eighteen to bookend the back nine, ending +11 for the day.
The final day of the tournament begins Thursday morning.
