The Gannon University women's water polo team wrapped up its competition at the Robinette Invitational on Sunday afternoon, finishing with a 3-1 record.
Zarko Sadikovic's squad started the final day strong, earning a decisive 20-8 victory over Penn State Behrend before securing its final win of the invite against Grove City, 16-6.
Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) hit the 100-career goal milestone in the Grove City match, entering the day just five goals away from the achievement. She scored three times in the opener against Penn State Behrend and added two more in the win over Grove City to reach the mark.
Game 1 – Gannon vs. Penn State Behrend (W, 20-8)
Fueled by a balanced offensive attack and contributions from several players, the Gannon women's water polo team sailed to a commanding 20-8 victory over Erie rival, Penn State Behrend, in the opening game of the final day at the Robinette Invitational.
Claudia Orte Blanch (Madrid, Spain/IES Profesor Maximo Trueba) and
Carissa Jones (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) spearheaded the offense, each netting four goals, while
Emma O'Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) and
Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) contributed three goals apiece.
Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) and
Delaney Chrysle (Banning, Calif./Beaumont) also played key roles, adding two goals each.
Kerstyn Farley (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) and
Claire Rogillio (Austin, Texas/Anderson) rounded out the scoring, further highlighting the Golden Knights' balanced offensive attack. In goal,
Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was steadfast, registering eight saves in 32 minutes of play.
Gannon wasted no time establishing control, surging to a 6-2 lead in the first period and never trailing for the duration of the contest. The Golden Knights continued to apply pressure throughout, outscoring the Lions in every quarter and sealing the dominant 20-8 victory.
Game 2 – Gannon vs. Grove City (W, 16-6)
The Golden Knights triumphed over the Wolverines in their final match at the Robinette Invitational, securing a 16-6 victory at the Hallman Aquatics Center. Gannon quickly gained control, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first period, with
Emma O'Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) scoring twice.
Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) also made her mark early, scoring three goals as the Golden Knights built a dominant 9-2 lead by halftime.
In the second half, the Golden Knights continued their offensive attack, netting five goals in the third period, highlighted by
Molly Fehr's (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) milestone 100th career goal, which extended their lead to 12-2. They mirrored that success in the fourth quarter, adding another five goals. Grove City managed to score two goals in each of the final periods, but it wasn't enough to close the gap, and Gannon sealed the win, 16-6.
Carissa Jones (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) each contributed two goals, while
Ana Carrera (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona), Claudia Ortez Blanch,
Kerstyn Farley (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona),
Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), and
Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) all found the back of the net once. In goal,
Izabella Trunzo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) played the entire 32 minutes, recording seven saves and one steal to help secure the victory.
