Weekly Athletics Preview: December 29th - January 4th

ERIE, Pa. – The holiday season continues for Gannon Athletics! Multiple teams are excited to ring in the new year with home games to begin 2026.

Gannon will have five home events over the weekend as the winter season hits its midway point. Notably, men's wrestling will have its home opener on Sunday, while both hoops squads host back to back home events on Friday and Saturday.

Here is our weekly athletics preview to kick off 2026:

THIS WEEK IN GANNON ATHLETICS

No. 4 Men's Wrestling (3-1)
Sunday, January 4th vs Glenville State - 5:00 pm (Recreation and Wellness Center)

  • The fourth-ranked Golden Knights added their final pieces to an already formidable lineup in their dual meet loss to Edinboro on December 19th. Veterans Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) saw action for the first time on the year as the Golden Knights round out their team heading into the second half of the season.

  • The home opener is this Sunday! The Golden Knights will host Glenville State at 5:00 pm in the Recreation and Wellness Center for their first home dual meet of the year.

No. 10 Men's Basketball (10-1)
Friday, Jan. 2nd vs. Shippensburg – 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 3rd vs Lock Haven - 3:00 pm

  • The Golden Knights climbed to 10th in the latest NABC Div. II Top 25 earlier in the week, and they more than earned that ranking. Now winners of seven in a row, GU earned two key conference crossover wins away from home over West Chester (101-76) and MIllersville (74-70). Gannon is now 4-0 in conference play.

  • PSAC action continues this week with two games to open up 2026, both at home. The Golden Knights will entertain Shippensburg on Friday at 5:00 pm, with a short turnaround to follow on Saturday at 3:00 pm to host Lock Haven. Both games will be at the Highmark Events Center.

No. 5 Women's Basketball (12-1)

Friday, Jan. 2nd vs. Shippensburg – 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 3rd vs Lock Haven - 1:00 pm

  • Fifth ranked Gannon will enter 2026 on an eleven game winning streak as conference play continues. Cleve Wright's squad has continued to play stifling defense, notably in their wins over West Chester (82-61) and Millersville (56-45) before the holiday break. The Golden Knights have moved to 4-0 in conference play.

  • PSAC action continues this week with two games to open up 2026, both at home. The Golden Knights will entertain Shippensburg on Friday at 3:00 pm, with a short turnaround to follow on Saturday at 1:00 pm to host Lock Haven. Both games will be at the Highmark Events Center.

Women's Wrestling (6-3)
Does not compete this week.

  • The Golden Knights will have this week off before their biggest test of the season. They'll travel to Cedar Rapids, IA to compete in the NWCA National Duals on January 9th and 10th.
