No. 14 Men’s Soccer Secures No. 6 Seed, Heads to Bentley for NCAA Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The NCAA announced the field for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament on Monday evening with Gannon awarded the sixth seed in Super Region 1.

The PSAC champions were rewarded with a trip to the suburbs of Boston to play No. 3 seed Bentley at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23 in a second round match.

A total of 40 teams qualified for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament split into four 10-team super regions. The regional winners will advance to Colorado Springs, Col. for the Final Four. The semifinals are set for December 12 with the championship match on December 14.

The Golden Knights will be appearing in the Super Region 1 Tournament for the fourth time in five years and fifth overall under head coach Billy Colton

This year is different, however. Gannon earned the PSAC's automatic berth into the tournament after winning its first-ever PSAC championship on Sunday.

The 2-1 victory over Millersville left the Golden Knights at 13-2-4 and riding a nine-game winning streak. Gannon entered the week ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25.

Bentley, members of the Northeast-10, comes in at 11-2-4. The Falcons dropped a 4-1 decision to Franklin Pierce in the NE10 championship game after moving on thanks to penalty kicks in the semifinals vs. Adelphi, the number five seed in Super Region 1.

Bentley was ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 last week.

Super Region 1 first-round games feature the No. 8 seed Post (9-2-7) against the No. 9 seed Bridgeport (8-4-8). The winner moves on to play top-seeded Southern New Hampshire (14-2-2) in the second round.

The other second-round game will be between Charleston (WV) (16-0-4), the number four seed, and Adelphi (9-5-4).

The first round game in Gannon's half of the bracket has No. 7 Wilmington (Del.) (11-3-5) playing No. 10 Roberts Wesleyan (10-2-7).

That winner moves on to play at No. 2 Franklin Pierce (12-3-3).
