Wheatley, Loboda Named Chick-fil-A Student-Athletes of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – Women's basketball player Maddy Wheatley (Canberra, Australia/UCSSC Lake Ginninderra) and men's swimmer Kuba Loboda (Lublin, Poland) have been selected as the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of January 26. The Gannon Student-Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Chick-fil-A of Erie.

Wheatley turned in a career-best performance as Gannon upset fifth-ranked Seton Hill on Saturday 89-75. With the Canberra, Australia native playing a major role the Golden Knights jumped out to a 55-28 lead at the half and were never threatened in the second half.

The 5-foot-11 redshirt junior scored 21 of her career-high 25 points in the first half, going a perfect 5-for-5 on 3-pointers. She added 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double, along with four assists and three steals.

Wheatley recorded her first career double-double earlier in the week as Gannon defeated Pitt-Johnstown 66-41. She finished the night with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Loboda, known by his teammates as Jacub, was a busy swimmer as Gannon competed against Edinboro on Friday and at Ithaca on Saturday. Gannon celebrated Senior Night against Edinboro but the sophomore from Lublin, Poland stole the show with a winning time of 20.84 in the 50-yard freestyle. He also swam a leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle.
