ERIE, PA – The Gannon men's swimming team downed rival Edinboro, 145-53 on Senior night in a meet that featured several competitive battles.
The Golden Knights started the meet with a relay win. The team of
Dylan Ray (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney Community), Jordan Denyer (Port Elizabeth, South Africa/Grey), Nikolas Ambrosiani & Ben Williams (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay) pushed ahead of the field with a time of 3:30:08.
Ethan Weigel (Cowansville, Pa./Armstrong) followed with a 1000 freestyle win (10:30.92).
In the 50 freestyle, it was a mad dash to the finish.
Jakub Loboda claimed first with a time of 20.84, the only swimming to race sub 21 seconds in the win.
Hiyan Kubagawa (Sao Paulo, Brazil/) had a strong finish in the 200 IM, claiming first with a great freestyle leg (2:00.78). Loboda won his second event of the night in the next race, a 49.15 in the 100 fly.
More 100 yard success followed.
Nikita Poparcea earned a win in the freestyle (47.42) by just over a half a second.
William Retsch followed that victory up with one of his own; a 51.94 in the 100 backstroke was over a second ahead of the rest of the field.
After the women took the 500 free, the men followed suit. Weigel won his second meet of the night, this time from lane two, with a sub five minute marker of 4:59:58.
The Golden Knights ended the meet strong with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Loboda, Poparcea,
Derell Augustine (La Brea, Trinidad & Tobago/Vessigny Secondary School), & Nickolas Ambrosiani (Seward, Alaska/Seward) earned a first place result to close things out.
The Golden Knights travel to Ithaca Saturday at 1:00 pm for their final regular season meet.
