Gannon golf team places fifth in season-opening UC Golden Eagle Fall Invitational

Emily Donahue leads Golden Knights with 10th-place finish

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Gannon women's golf team moved up one spot in the standings on Tuesday and finished fifth in the season-opening UC Golden Eagle Fall Invitational.
 
Junior Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), playing as an individual, led Gannon with a 10th-place finish with a two-day total of 158. Senior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) and Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) tied for 11th, one stroke behind Donahue to lead Gannon's lineup.
 
Gannon was in sixth place after the opening day of the tournament and moved up one spot to finish fifth in the 15-team field with a two-day score of 653 (327-326). Host Charleston won the tourney with a 627, followed by Glenville State (629), Barton (643) and Emory & Henry (647). Emory & Henry 's Abby Bradley won the individual title among a field of 87 with a score of 150 (76-74).
 
Gannon's lineup was rounded by senior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) (23rd 165), sophomore Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) (35th, 172) and Gunnhildur Gunnarsdóttir (37th, 173). Jillian Gambino (Mayfield Village, Ohio/Mayfield) (181) played as an individual.
 
After opening with a first-round 78, Donahue added an 80 to close with an 18-over 158. Petersen shot Gannon's low round of the day, a 76, to finish with a 19-over 159. LeCureux carded a 79 on Tuesday after opening with an 80 on Monday as the freshman tied Petersen in the final standings.
 
Gannon will return to action on Sept. 16-17 in the ODU Champions of Women's Golf Fall Classic, hosted by Ohio Dominican, in Columbus, Ohio.
