Gannon Women's Soccer Game Preview: No. 5 Golden Knights Host Local Rival Edinboro as PSAC West Action Gets Underway

Gannon leads 22-8-6.
The Golden Knights have won the last seven meetings, five by shutout, and own a 10-0-2 record in the last 12 meetings. A year ago Gannon won the first meeting in Edinboro by a 3-1 score, then came back with a 4-0 victory at McConnell Family Stadium.

ERIE, Pa. – After a pair of impressive victories over Mountain East Conference opponents Gannon opens up PSAC divisional action, hosting a local rival no less. Gannon plays the first of three straight matches at McConnell Family Stadium when Edinboro visits on Wednesday, September 11. The match gets underway at 7:00 p.m. It begins a stretch where the Golden Knights play 14 of their final 15 matches against PSAC West teams.
 
Gannon was ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches Division II preseason poll and was chosen the favorite in the PSAC West in the coaches preseason poll. While the Golden Knights are off top a 2-0 start following a 3-1 win over No. 20 Charleston (WV) and a 1-0 triumph against Concord in the KU Invitational.   
 
Edinboro has played a pair of 1-1 ties to start the season. The Fighting Scots opened with 1-1 tie vs. Malone in their home opener then played to a 1-1 tie at Ursuline. They were picked to finish fifth in the PSAC West poll.
 
The match reunites a pair of former Gannon men's soccer players who at one time coached together. Gannon's Colin Petersen is in his 23rd season as head coach while Gary Kagiavas of Edinboro began his 28th year at the helm.
 
The Golden Knights ended their 2023 season with a 17-5-3 record and placed second in the PSAC West a 13-2-1 mark. The 17 wins were the second highest in school history.

Golden Knights to Watch
GK Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley): The veteran goalie is a team captain in 2024 after being named to the All-Atlantic Region second team and the All-PSAC second team. She started 24 games in 2023 and finished with a 16-3-3 record. Sinan recorded her seventh career shutout against Concord.
 
F/MF Gabby Boden (Butler, Pa./Butler): The two-time All-PSAC second team selection is a team leader who will serve as a captain in 2024. Boden placed second on the team with 10 assists in 2023 and finished third with 20 points in 2023. She scored five goals. She accounted for Gannon's first goal of the season against Charleston (WV).
 
MF Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport): She is a two-time All-PSAC West first team selection whose season was cut short by a late-season injury. The junior finished fourth on the team with seven goals and was fifth with 15 points.
 
F Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane): She was named a second team D2CCA All-American and third team United Soccer Coaches All-American after tying for third in NCAA Division II with 16 assists. Respecki tied for fifth nationally with 42 points, the second-highest single-season total in Gannon history. The sophomore scored twice in the win over Charleston (WV) and was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week.
 
MF Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell): As a freshman she was voted a D2CCA First Team All-American. She tied for 16th in NCAA Division II with 14 goals and added four assists as she finished second on the team with 32 points.

Scouting Edinboro: The Fighting Scots finished with four ties a year ago while going 5-9-4 and they first two matches this year finished in ties. The season began with a 1-1 tie at Sox Harrison Stadium against Malone last Thursday. On Saturday they traveled to Ursuline and again finished in a 1-1 stalemate. Edinboro led 1-0 thanks to an early second-half goal at Malone but Malone tied the contest in the 74th minute. Edinboro needed to rally at Ursuline, as Reece Enochs scored in the 83rd minute. Baylee Welling accounted for the goal at Malone. Edinboro was picked to finish fifth in the PSAC West preseason poll.

Moe's makes appearance: Representatives of Moe's Southwest Grill will be at the game with free samples for fans. In addition, the first 50 fans through the gate will also receive Moe's coupons.
