Gannon men's golf team wins Bill Blazer Memorial by 9 shots

Michael Wareham places second to lead four Gannon golfers among the top seven

URBANA, Ohio – Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) placed second to lead four Gannon golfers among the top seven as the Golden Knights won the team race by nine shots at the Bill Blazer Memorial on Saturday.
 
Wareham shot a 2-under-par 70 in the second round to go with his 1-over 73 in the opening round as he finished one shot back of tourney leader Gunnar McCollins of Malone. McCollins also shot a 70 on Saturday to finish with a 2-under 142. The tournament, which was hosted by Ohio Dominican, was played at Urbana Country Club.
 
Coach Dustin Coleman's Golden Knights turned in a two-day total of 6-over 582. That was nine shots better than runner-up Malone (591) and 15 strokes better and third-place Purdue-Northwest. After opening the tournament with a 1-over 289 on Friday, the Knights shot 5-over 293 on Saturday.

GU's Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) tied for fourth in the individual standings, while teammates Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) and Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) tied for seventh.
 
Wareham had five birdies as he shot 1-under 35 on both the front and the back nines. He birdied Nos. 6, 8, 13, 14, and 17.
 
Ferry shot an even-par 72, including a 2-under 34 on the back nine. He had birdies on Nos. 10, 11, and 17.
 
Parrini led the tournament after shooting a 71 on Friday, but he shot a 76 on Saturday and finished at 147. Delorenzi also posted a two-round total of 147 after shooting 72-75. He also carded five birdies in Saturday's round.
