Parrini helps Gannon men's golf team to 10-shot lead in Ohio Dominican tourney

Freshman Mattia Parrini shoots 1-under 71 to help Golden Knights to 289 score in Urbana, Ohio

URBANA, Ohio – Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) shot a 1-under-par 71 on Friday to lead the Gannon men's golf team to a 10-stroke lead through Day 1 of the Bill Blazer Memorial hosted by Ohio Dominican.

Parrini shot 35 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine at Urbana Country Club to take a one-shot lead over teammate Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena), Malone's Gunnar McCollins, and Purdue-Northwest's Brody Pass.

Coach Dustin Coleman's Gannon team recorded a first-day total of 1-over-par 289 to grab a 10-shot lead over Malone and Purdue-Northwest, both of whom had 299. Host Ohio Dominican was at 301.

Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each shot 1-over 73 to move into a tie for fifth for the Golden Knights. Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa/St Stithians Boys School) was tied for 11th with a 74.

Parrini, a freshman, converted four birdies on Friday, on holes No. 1, 4, 13, and 14.

Delorenzi, a sophomore, birdied Nos. 5, 11, and 17 on the way to an even-par score.

Ferry had three birdies while posting a 2-under 34 on the back nine. He had birdies on 10, 11, and 14.

Wareham shot 1-under 35 on the back nine, thanks to birdies on No. 11 and No. 13. Rama also posted a 1-under 35 on the back nine with birdies on the 11th and 17th holes.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
