Gannon Returns to Action at Slippery Rock on Wednesday

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse team will face one of the favorites in the PSAC West preseason poll for the third game in its last four outings. The Golden Knights make the trip down I-79 to play at Slippery Rock on Wednesday, April 3. The match gets underway at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium at 4:00 p.m.

Gannon enters with a 2-6 record and is 0-3 in the PSAC West after last playing a week ago against preseason favorite Seton Hill and dropping a 22-7 decision. The Golden Knights seek an end to a three-game losing streak while Slippery Rock has won two straight contests to improve to 6-2 and 2-1 in league play. SRU was picked to finish third in the Western Division.

After missing a match with an injury leading scorer Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) returned against Seton Hill. The junior has 24 goals and five assists for 29 points.

Sophomore Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) is next in scoring with 16 goals and five assists for 21 points while McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) has 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points despite missing the first three games of the season.

Madyson Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter),, a graduate transfer from Chestnut Hill, has contributed 14 goals and two assists for 16 points. Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) adds 12 goals.
Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) returned in goal against Indiana (Pa.) after missing two matches with an injury. The junior has a 15.31 GAA and has 60 saves in six matches. She was a second team All-PSAC West selection.

Slippery Rock's two-game winning streak has come against two of the top teams in the PSAC. Last Saturday The Rock defeated Indiana (Pa.) in overtime 12-11 and a week ago edged Lock Haven 14-12. SRU has outscored its opponents 110-77.

Camryn Whipple leads SRU with 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points. She ranks second in the PSAC in assists per game and is tied for fifth in points per game. Brooke Wisniewski, a 2023 second-team All-PSAC West selection, is tied for the team lead with 17 goals while Lauren Searles, a first-team All-PSAC West performer last year, has 14 goals and four assists for 18 points.

Senior Gillian O'Rourke has seen the majority of action in goal and has an 8.70 GAA with 47 saves.
