Gannon Holds Six-Stroke Lead after 18 Holes at Atlantic East Region Preview

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Gannon men's golf team took a step toward defending last year's title at the Atlantic/East Region Preview on Monday, jumping out to a six-stroke lead after 18 holes. This year's event is being played at Oglebay Resort Jones Course. The second 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.

Gannon finished with a 291 total, 7-over par, to hold six-stroke advantage over Livingstone and Charleston (WV). Both are at 13-over 297. Four teams are tied for fourth at 301, 17-over par. A total of 26 teams are competing.

The individual leaderboard features a pair of Golden Knights in the top five. Benjamin Fernandez of Glenville State was the lone golfer to finish under par on the par-71 layout, finishing with a 4-under par 67.

Four other players finished at even-par 71, two of them Golden Knights. Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) and Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa/St Stithians Boys School) both fashioned 71's. In addition, Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) is in the top ten after 18 holes at 1-over par 72, good for a tie for ninth. Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) was the fourth Gannon scorer on Monday in a tie for 29th at 76, 5-over par.
