SUNSET BEACH, N.C. –
Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa/St Stithians Boys School) shot a 2-under-par 70 on Friday and claimed a one-shot victory while helping the Gannon men's golf team to the title at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate Spring Golf Tournament.
Rama, a senior, finished with a two-round total of 3-under 141 on the Sea Trail Jones course as Gannon closed the two-day tournament with a 2-over-par 578 total in the opener of the spring season. Saginaw Valley State finished the runner-up in the nine-team tournament with a 583 total.
Gannon shot an even-par round of 288 on Friday. Saginaw surged on the second day with a 6-under 282.
GU freshman
Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) tied for second place, one stroke back with a 142. Mattia took the lead on Day 1 with a 3-under 69 and followed that with a 1-over 73 on Friday.
Junior
Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) carded an even-par 72 on Friday, and sophomore
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) shot a 73. Wareham tied for 10th with a 3-over 147, and Delorenzi tied for 12th with a 148.

Rama's round:
The championship round by Rama was highlighted by his play on the par-5, 511-yard eighth hole. Rama played the hole in three shots as he carded an all-important eagle.
However, that was just the beginning of his three-hole stretch from hole Nos. 8-10. He birdied the par-5 531-yard ninth hole.
Rama also opened the back nine with a birdie 3 on the par-4, 320-yard 10th hole.
His final birdie came on the 15th hole, a 548-yard par-5. He finished the Jones course's four par-5's in 4-under-par for the day.

What's ahead:
Gannon will be off until April 5-8 when it will travel to Urbana, Ohio, to play in the Bill Blazer Memorial.
