SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – The Gannon men's golf team is off to a strong start following 18 holes in the Sea Trail Spring Golf Tournament. The Golden Knights are debuting in the 2024 portion of the season, with the tournament being played at the Sea Trail Jones course.

The Golden Knights are two strokes back of Ohio Dominican following the opening 18 holes. Ohio Dominican finished the opening day with a score of even-par 288 while Gannon comes in at two-over par 290. The Golden Knights are five strokes ahead of fellow PSAC member California (Pa.), with the Vulcans showing an aggregate total of 295 (+7). A total of nine teams are competing in the 36-hole event.

Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) is in first place with a one-stroke lead. The freshman fired a three-under par 69. His round included seven birdies, three on the front nine and four on the back.

Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa/St Stithians Boys School) is also in the top five after shooting a one-under par 70, good for a three-way tie for fourth place. Rama had four birdies on the back nine, at one stringing straight birdies together from holes 13-15.
