Gannon acrobatics and tumbling team moves to 3-0 with win over No. 6 Frostburg State

No. 4 Golden Knights win four of the six events

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Gannon acrobatics and tumbling team begin a string of meets against Top-10 teams with success on Saturday.

Coach Brandy Duren's No. 4-ranked Golden Knights claimed their third win of the season in three meets as they defeated No. 6 Frostburg State on their home mat on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights are now 3-0 as they prepare to visit No. 10 Belmont Abbey in their next meet before hosting No. 5 Azusa Pacific (March 5) and No. 7 Fairmont State (March 11) in their only home meets. They will then close out the regular season at No. 1 Baylor and at No. 3 Quinnipiac.

Gannon won four of the six events against Frostburg State on Saturday and once again was impressive in the Team Event to secure the victory.

Gannon and Frostburg both advanced to the National College Acrobatics and Tumbling quarterfinals last season.

 
Compulsory:

Gannon claimed a close 37.40-36.50 victory in the opening event as the teams performed required skills.

The Golden Knights, who excel in the Toss Event, compiled their top Compulsory score of 9.85 in the Toss Heat.  Gannon also had a 9.75 in the Pyramid.

 
Acro:

Gannon again pulled out a narrow victory in this event – 28.00-27.30 – thanks to a solid 9.75 in Heat 1.
 

Pyramid:

Frostburg won an NCATA event national championship in the Pyramid last year, and the Bobcats' strength showed Friday. They edged Gannon 28.65-28.05 in the event, which included a 9.90 in the Inversion and a 9.75 in the Open Pyramid.
 

Toss:

One of Gannon's biggest strengths each year is the Toss. The Knights won that event on Saturday 27.95-26.40. GU's top score of the three heats came in the Open Toss where they scored a 9.55.

Gannon won event national titles in the Open Toss and Synchronized Toss in 2023.

 
Tumbling:

A season long goal for Gannon this season will be to sharpen their tumbling skills in order to compete for an NCTA team national title. Frostburg topped Gannon 54.30-53.425 in the Tumbling event on Saturday.

Gannon's best scores came in the 6 Element Pass (9.650) and Aerial Pass (9.625).

Frostburg recorded an outstanding 9.950 in the Open Pass to secure the event win.
 

Team Event:

Gannon turned in another strong performance in the Team Event, compiling a score of 92.81 out of a Start Value of 107.40. Gannon turned in an outstanding score of 94.360 in its season-opening tri-meet as it opened with wins over Kutztown and East Stroudsburg.

Frostburg finished the Team Event with an 87.44 on a Start Value of 103.75.
