Golden Knights Awarded No. 2 Seed, Will Host Frostburg State in Atlantic Regional

Gannon making fourth straight appearance in NCAA Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's soccer team will make its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament following another outstanding season. Head coach Colin Petersen's squad learned on Monday night that it will enter the Atlantic Regional as the No. 2 seed during the NCAA Selection Show.

Gannon won the PSAC West regular season title but was upset by Kutztown in the PSAC Semifinals by a 2-1 score. It was the Golden Knights' lone loss of the season as they enter the NCAA Tournament with a 14-1-4 record.

Gannon will host a four-team pod with games set for Friday, November 22 and Sunday, November 24. The Golden Knights host No. 7 seed Frostburg State on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. The Bobcats come in with a 15-3-2 record.

That game is preceded by a matchup between No. 3 Kutztown (11-4-6) and No. 6 Charleston (WV) (16-5-0) at 12 noon. Friday's winners will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, with the possibility of a rematch between Gannon and Kutztown.

The other pod features No. 4 West Virginia State (15-3-3) meeting No. 5 Indiana (Pa.) (11-2-4) at Shepherd. The winner moves on to play the Rams. Shepherd (16-1-4) received the top seed after emerging as the PSAC champion.

Gannon enjoyed a magical run to the Elite Eight a year ago after entering the Atlantic Regional as the No. 4 seed. Their journey began with a 1-0 win over local rival Mercyhurst while playing at Charleston (WV). In the second round they upset top-seeded Charleston 3-1 to advance to the Sweet 16.

The Golden Knights continued on the road in the Sweet 16 at No. 3 West Chester. The two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes but Gannon advanced to the Elite Eight on penalty kicks 5-4 to win the Atlantic Regional crown. Angela Vandamia's penalty kick goal allowed Gannon to move on.

Gannon played East Regional champion Adelphi in the Elite Eight. The Panthers scored the lone goal of the match with just under five minutes to play for a 1-0 win.
