THE GANNON-KUTZTOWN SERIES
Kutztown leads all-time series 12-3-0
Last meeting: Gannon defeated Kutztown 2-0 on the Golden Bears' home field in the PSAC semifinals on Nov. 10, 2023. Gannon was the No. 2 West seed while Kutztown was the No. 1 East seed.
Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored the game-winning goal off an assist by
Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane).
Â
ERIE, Pa. – Gannon has inched closer to its first PSAC Tournament title each of the past two seasons as the Golden Knights advanced to the championship game each year. However, each time the Knights ran into a talented West Chester team that thwarted Gannon's title hopes.
Â
Last year, Gannon was tied with West Chester 1-1 before the Golden Rams scored a goal at the 81:58 mark to claim a 2-1 win in the championship game.
Â
The good news for Gannon is that West Chester is no longer in the 2024 tournament. The bad news is that the Golden Knights will have to face a tough Kutztown team that eliminated West Chester with a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over the Rams. Gannon will host Kutztown on Friday at 3 p.m. in the first semifinal at McConnell Family Stadium.
Â
Kutztown is the No. 3 seed from the highly competitive Eastern Division where the Golden Bears finished with a 7-3-6 record. Kutztown enters at 10-3-6 overall
.
Â
Gannon has relied on a talented young lineup that includes sophomores
Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) and
Grace Emanuel (Erie, Pa./McDowell), who are tied for second place in the PSAC with 12 goals apiece. Respecki leads the PSAC with 32 points, and Emanuel is second with 30.
Â
Gannon had eight PSAC All-Stars on Thursday, including eight first-team honorees.
Destinee Robertson (Lacey, Washington/Timberline) was named PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year, and
Jessie Watkins (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was selected as the Freshman of the Year.
Â
If Gannon were to beat a tough Kutztown team on Friday and advance to Sunday's 1 p.m. game, it would be guaranteed to face a talented opponent in either Eastern Division No. 1 seed Shepherd or Western Division No. 3 seed Slippery Rock.
