ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team turned in a true team effort in winning the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Tuesday at Whispering Woods Golf Club.
 
On a beautiful fall day, the Golden Knights faced tough pin placements as scores rose throughout second day. However, all five of the players on Gannon's A Team finished among the Top 10 in the standings, including three among the top five, as they finished with a two-day total of 47-over 623. Gannon edged Franklin Pierce by two strokes.
 
Franklin Pierce received an outstanding performance from Kesinee Prukmathakul, who had six birdies in a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday. That gave her a 12-stroke victory in the two-day event.
 
Gannon, though, received balanced contributions from all of its A Team players.
 
Senior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) led the way with a second-place, 9-over 153 after shooting a 78 on Tuesday. That included a clutch par on her final hole as GU held on for the win.
 
Sophomore Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) placed third with a 10-over 154 after carding a 78 on Tuesday. Gannon senior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) overcame a tough first round to shoot Gannon's low score of 76 on Tuesday. She finished fifth with a 14-over 158 total.
 
Freshman Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) tied for eighth (79-83—162) and Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) tied for 10th (78-85—163) in the field of 46.
 
The Gannon B Team placed sixth in the tournament with 712, led by 21st-place Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy)  (84-91—175), and Gunnhildur Gunnarasdottir (79-99—178) and Jillian Gambino (Mayfield Village, Ohio/Mayfield) (95-83—178), who tied for 23rd.
 
 
What's ahead:
 
The Gannon women's golf team will travel to August, Mich., on to compete in Davenport University's Panther Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
