OWENSBORO, Ky. – It was another sensational performance to end a superb fall season for the Gannon men's golf team.
Â
Gannon placed second among 14 teams at the Bill Crabtree Invitational on Tuesday, and two of its golfers placed among the top three. In a strong closing round, Gannon shot an 8-under-par 280 total, the low team score of the final round. The No. 13-ranked Golden Knights moved up one spot in the standings to second with a two-day total of 8-under 568. Â Missouri S&T, which is ranked No. 22, won the team title with a two-day total of 18-under-par 558.
Â
In addition, a pair of Gannon sophomores,
Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) and
Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo), surged in the standings, finishing second and third, respectively. Seppanen shot a 4-under 68 and finished in second place with a 5-under 139 total. Meanwhile, Parrini shot the low round of the day – a sparkling 6-under-par 66 – to move into third place with a 4-under 140 score for 36 holes.
Â
Parrini's round on Tuesday was particularly strong as he recorded six birdies and 12 pars. He had three birdies on each nine to finish with a 3-under 33 on each side.
Â
Seppanen's round included three birdies and an eagle-3 on the par-5 14th hole. He shot 35 on the front nine and 33 on the back nine.
Â
Gannon's scoring was rounded out by junior
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) (2-under 142) and senior
Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) (4-over 148).
Â
That concludes Gannon's fall season, which included five tournament team titles and four individual titles – three by Parrini and one by Seppanen.
