The Golden Knights pulled away after falling behind 7-0 following two bouts. Gannon won the final four weight classes by fall as Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area), Cole Hivnor (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Joel Leise (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) and Elie Reese picked up pins, all in the first period. Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) won by technical fall at 141 lbs. and Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) posted a major decision at 149 lbs.

Gannon ran off wins in six of the first seven matches to coast to the win at Kutztown. Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) won by fall at 157 lbs. while Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) picked up a technical fall at 149 lbs. While the score was heavily in Gannon's favor five of the matches were decided by two points or less.

 
ERIE, Pa. – Fans of the Gannon men's wrestling team will finally have an opportunity to see the Golden Knights on their home mat after nearly three months of away matches. Gannon will wrestle for the first time at home during the 2023-24 season on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.

The Golden Knights host a pair of PSAC matches, facing East Stroudsburg on Friday and Kutztown on Saturday. With the Highmark Events Center shut down for renovations, both matches will take place at the Recreation and Wellness Center.

First-year head coach Tom Boyd has guided the Golden Knights to a 5-1 record. They opened PSAC action last weekend with wins over Millersville (39-6) and Shippensburg (42-9). Gannon is ranked 18th in the latest The Open Mat dual match rankings. A year ago Gannon defeated East Stroudsburg 36-10 and Kutztown 29-12.

Friday's match is also Senior Night with 11 grapplers scheduled to be recognized. They include Hayden Butterfield (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Jose Diaz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler), Eddie Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), Constantine Gehring (Owego, N.Y./Binghamton), Joel Huck (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf), Parker Loera (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Matt Long (Corry, Pa./Union City), Marques McClorin (Meadville, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Jacob Onorato (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and Caden Wendling (Brook Park, Ohio/Berea-Midpark).

Gannon's lineup showcases six wrestlers ranked either by the NWCA or The Open Mat. Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) leads the way with a 17-5 and ranked seventh by The Open Mat and eighth by the NWCA at 133 lbs.

Jose Diaz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) (12-4) is ranked 10th by the NWCA and 12th by The Open Mat at 125 lbs., while Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (17-5) also shows up in both polls. He is 11th according to the NWCA and 12th by The Open Mat.

Three other Golden Knights appear in The Open Mat rankings. Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area) (13-5) is ranked 15th at 184 lbs., Cole Hivnor (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (13-5) is 18th at 174 lbs. and Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) (13-4) 20th at 149 lbs.   

East Stroudsburg enters with a 3-2 overall record and is 0-2 in the PSAC. The Warriors faced then No. 14 Pitt-Johnstown early in the season and lost 47-0 and also dropped a 23-19 decision to Millersville, who was ranked 23rd at the time. The Warriors' lineup features freshman Layton Schmick who is 21-3 and ranked 18th by The Open Mat.

Kutztown, meanwhile, owns a 2-0 record with wins over Seton Hill, 34-15, and Shippensburg, 33-18, in early December. The Golden Bears face Mercyhurst on Friday night before wrestling the Golden Knights.

Matthew Weiberg is ranked third in both polls at 184 lbs. and comes in with a 15-3 record. The redshirt junior earned All-American honors a year ago. Redshirt sophomores Bailey Gimbor and Dalton Gimbor are also nationally-ranked. Dalton is ranked seventh by the NWCA and 13th by The Open Mat at 165 lbs., while Bailey is 12th and 15th, respectively, at 157 lbs. 

Following the Kutztown match on Saturday Gannon's B-team will square off against Garrett College. On Sunday a total of 28 wrestlers will compete in the Jamestown Community College Open.
