THE KNIGHT CAP – SESSION 1Â
-
Decisions, Decisions - Gannon, in most every case, came up clutch in tight matches in session one. Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School) began the day with a win by decision in his first match thanks to a takedown just 1:18 into the bout. Meanwhile, Grant MacKay (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) was able to force sudden victory, and in SV-2 forced a stall call on his opponent at 165 to earn the win and advance to the quarterfinals. In other tight results, a reversal from Pat Jackson in the second period propelled him to his first win at the NCAA tournament after an 0-2 finish a year ago. Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) earned a 2-1 decision to move on to the final eight. Â
-
Not Holding Back - Holden Huhn (Loveland, Ohio/La Salle) continues to defy the odds in his freshman season. Huhn picked up right where he left off from the regional to secure Gannon's lone extra point win of the first session, winning his match by fall at the 2:25 mark. Â
-
Piling on the Points - Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) and Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) were Gannon's top scorers of round one. Kiser, slow out of the gate, trailed 6-1 before rattling of 12 straight points to advance in the 149 pound bracket, while Echevarria, a two-time all-American, put up seven points in the third to win 9-4. Â
-
Other Notes – Jake Niffenegger (Mason, Ohio/La Salle) fell in his first-round match by sudden victory ... Joey Lyons (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) put up a strong fight against the top seed  at 197, ultimately falling by a 4-1 decision ... Gannon was the only team in the field to advance seven to the quarterfinal round ... only team with nine competitors left in the tournament.Â
THE KNIGHT CAP – SESSION 2Â
-
The Man – Is what Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has been all season and continues to be. He is two wins away from a National Championship. Â
-
All-American Fight – Four other Golden Knights took home all-American status on Friday. Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School) (125), Holden Huhn (Loveland, Ohio/La Salle) (149), Pat Jackson (184) and Joey Lyons (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) (197) all bounced back from losses earlier in the evening to take home all-American status and remain in the hunt for third entering Saturday. Â
-
Last Second Heartbreakers – Three other Gannon competitors were quite literally seconds away from claiming all-American status themselves. Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach), Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown), and Grant MacKay (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) all suffered defeats with mere seconds remaining in their consolation bouts. Â
