Pirosko Named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference today announced its weekly award winners in women's basketball, with Gannon's Samantha Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) selected the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week. It is the third time this year she has been honored by the conference. She has twice been named the Athlete of the Week and has now received a PSAC weekly honor ten times in her career.

Gannon comes off a demanding three game stretch in eight days against some of the toughest teams in the PSAC West. Two of those games were played this past week, with the Golden Knights ending six-game winning streaks on both occasions.

The week began with a 90-86 win at Edinboro in a game which saw Gannon lead most of the way before the Fighting Scots rallied for a one-point lead in the third quarter, only to see the Golden Knights dominate down the stretch.

Pirosko was a big part of that as the redshirt senior post player fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. She added a steal and a block on the defensive end while going 10-of-11 at the line and contributing four assists.

On Saturday she recorded her sixth double-double of the season in a 68-52 win over Indiana (Pa.) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, giving her 51 straight games in double figures. She added a pair of steals and two assists while making 7-of-13 field goals and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Pirosko now has 1,850 career points and 739 career rebounds, ranking fourth in career scoring and seventh in career rebounding.
Ranked as high as third in Division II, Gannon returns to action on Wednesday, January 17 at Slippery Rock. The Golden Knights have now won 14 straight games to improve to 17-1.
