BELLE VERNON, Pa. – The Gannon men's golf team started the 2023-24 season the way it played almost the entire 2022-23 season.
Coach
Dustin Coleman's Golden Knights opened the season by taking the lead at the California (PA) Vulcan Invitational through 36 holes of golf on Sunday at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.
Senior
Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) took the individual lead among 107 golfers with an even-par total of 144. Fellow senior
Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa/St Stithians Boys School) is tied for second at 145 and sophomore
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) is tied for fifth at 146.
Their efforts helped Gannon record a two-round total of 584. Pitt-Johnstown is in second place in the 16-team field with 594, and Millersville is third with 599.
The tournament concludes Monday with 18 holes.
Gannon opened last season with a first-place finish in the Vulcan Invite and went on to win eight tournaments in 2022-23.
