Gannon men's golf team rolls to tourney win as Parrini claims individual title

Freshman Mattia Parrini finishes 11-under par as Gannon wins Kuhn Memorial Tournament by 19 shots

MEADVILLE, Pa. – After a strong first round on Sunday, the Gannon men's golf team had an even better round on the second and final day of Guy and Jeanne Memorial Tournament on Monday.

Freshman Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) shot a 7-under-par 65 as the Golden Knights turned in a team score of 22-under-par 554 to claim a 19-stroke win in the 13-team tournament hosted by Allegheny College at the Country Club of Meadville. After shooting a 9-under 279 on Sunday, the Knights shot a 13-under 275 on Monday. Carnegie Mellon placed second at 3-under 573.

Gannon repeated as the champion of the Kuhn Memorial. This is the Knights' second win of the season in three events after they opened the season with a victory in the California (Pa.) Vulcan Invitational.

Parrini was the first-round leader after shooting a 4-under 68 on Sunday. He used his 65 on Monday to finish with an 11-under 133, which tied a Gannon 36-hole record. His score was good for a four-shot win over teammate Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena), a sophomore who shot rounds of 67 and 70 to close with a 7-under 137.

Both Parrini and Delorenzi had five birdies on Monday to go along with an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. Both players shot 5-under 32 on the front nine. Parrini played a bogey-free round, while Delorenzi had a pair of bogeys on the back nine.

Coach Dustin Coleman's team had four players finish among the top seven. Junior Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) tied for fifth at 2-under 142 (70-72), and Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) tied for seventh at 1-under 143 (72-71).
