Gannon Holds Ten Stroke Lead after 18 Holes at Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Gannon men's golf team holds a ten-stroke lead after the first day of play of the Guy and Jeanne Memorial Tournament. The Golden Knights are looking to win the team crown for the third straight year. The 36-hole tournament concludes on Monday.

A light rain had little impact on the Golden Knights as all five players were even par or better. It all added up to a team score of 279, 9-under par, on the par 72 Country Club of Meadville layout. A total of 13 teams are competing. Carnegie Mellon is second at 289 (+1) with McDaniel third at 294 (+6). Allegheny (304 +16) and Washington & Jefferson (306 +18) round out the top five.

Four of Gannon's five golfers hold down the top four spots, with all five in the top six. Freshman Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) continued his hot play with a round of 68, 4-under par, to hold a two-shot lead over teammates Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) and Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights). Both came in at 70. Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) is tied for fourth after shooting a one-under par 71.

Senior Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) concludes the Gannon contingent with an even-par 72, good for a tie for sixth. A year ago Ferry tied for the individual crown, finishing in second on tiebreakers to teammate Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate). The year before that he was tied for second while playing for Mercyhurst. A native of Meadville, Ferry's father Michael is the head pro at the course.
