Price, Versaw-Barnes named Chick-fil-A Gannon Student-Athletes of the Week

Acrobatics & tumbling athlete Ali Price and baseball pitcher Kieran Versaw-Barnes claim weekly honors

ERIE, Pa. – Acrobatics & tumbling athlete Ali Price (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) and baseball player Kieran Versaw-Barnes have been named the Gannon University Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 2, 2023. The Gannon Student-Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored all year by Chick-fil-A of Erie.

Price was instrumental in helping the Gannon acrobatics & tumbling team claim two national championships at the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association Event Finals in West Liberty, W.Va., on Sunday.

The New Paris, Pa., resident was one of two tops who went airborne in the Synchronized Toss as Gannon scored a 9.475 to repeat as NCATA national champions in that event.

The junior then was the lone top for Gannon's Open Toss event as the Golden Knights finished with a 9.550 score to again repeat as national champions.

Price has been a key performer for Gannon's team for three seasons. Last week, she was selected as an All-American for the second season in a row.

She is one of the Knights' premier tumblers in addition to being a standout top.

Versaw-Barnes continued his strong redshirt sophomore season with an outstanding performance against PSAC West leader Seton Hill.

The Elkins Park, Pa., resident pitched six scoreless innings against the Griffins' high-scoring lineup in the first game of a doubleheader at McConnell Family Stadium on April 27.

Versaw-Barnes limited Seton Hill to three hits in six innings while striking out eight and walking two. He did not receive a decision because the game was scoreless when he departed after six innings.

For the season, the 5-foot-10 right-hander does not have a decision in five appearances, but he has a sparkling 1.69 earned-run average. He has struck out 16 and walked five while allowing 11 hits in 16 innings.
