ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's lacrosse plays the first of back-to-back games against local rivals to wrap up the 2023 season. The Golden Knights host Mercyhurst on Wednesday, April 26 at McConnell Family Stadium. The action gets underway at 4:00 p.m.

Head coach Jennifer Pawlowski's team will conclude the 2023 campaign on Saturday, April 29 when Edinboro visits McConnell Family Stadium.

Gannon enters Wednesday's game with a 3-12 record and is 3-7 in the PSAC West. The Golden Knights look to snap a four-game losing streak that has seen them play well against some of the best teams in the division.

The Golden Knights defeated Mercyhurst on April 5 by a 10-9 scoring, overcoming a 6-5 halftime deficit. The win snapped a ten-game losing streak to Mercyhurst with Gannon last defeating the Lakers in April 2013.

Gannon looks to play the role of spoiler against Mercyhurst. The Lakers are one game behind Slippery Rock for the final Western Division playoff berth in the PSAC Tournament with two games to play and own an earlier win over SRU. The two teams meet on Saturday in their final game of the regular season.

In their last game a week ago Gannon came up just short of upsetting Slippery Rock. The Golden Knights held a 6-5 lead going into the fourth period but The Rock rallied for an 8-7 win. Goalie Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) was outstanding in defeat, recording a career-high 17 saves. That is tied for the fourth-most saves in a match at Gannon.

Six Golden Knights have scored 10-or-more goals, with Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) leading the way with 31 goals and 11 assists, the latter figure tied for the team lead, for 42 points. She scored four goals in the earlier win over Mercyhurst. The sophomore attack was a second team All-PSAC West selection a year ago.

McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) adds 28 goals and four assists for 32 points. The 2021 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, Woodworth went over 100 career goals earlier in the season. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) is third on the team in goals with 18 while Avrey Kirisits (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) is tied with Stevens with 11 assists.

After sharing time in goal early in the season Manning has taken over as the starter. The sophomore lowered her goals against average to 13.21 while recording 111 saves.
