NORTH EAST, Pa. – The Gannon University men's golf team capped a dominant performance in the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational by claiming a 28-stroke win and an individual title.
The Golden Knights shot a 291 on Saturday to finish with a two-round total of 2-over-par 578 at Lake View Country Club. Westminster placed second with a 30-over 606 followed by Pitt-Johnstown 32-over 608 in the 10-team tournament.
The victory marks Gannon's sixth tournament team title of 2022-23. The Golden Knights claimed five tourney championships as a team in the fall season.

Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) claimed the individual championship in a two-hole playoff with teammate
Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) after both tied with a 1-under-par 143 through 36 holes. In the playoff, both players birdied the par-5 first hole. Holmes then birdied the par-4 18th hole to win over Ferry, who parred the hole.

The two players had been tied for second place at 1-under-par 71 after the first round on Friday. Both shot even-par 72 on Saturday.
This was the fifth individual title of the 2022-23 school year for Holmes, who won four tournaments during the fall portion of the season. One of those wins was a playoff win over Ferry.

Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) (77-77-14), who tied for fourth place.
