Strickland Scores Five Goals as Gannon Wraps Up Action at Harvard Invitational on Sunday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Gannon women's water polo team dropped its final two game in the Harvard Invitational on Sunday and are now 3-11 on the season. The Golden Knights lost for the third time to a strong La Salle team, 20-4 this time. They came back to give Siena a good battle before dropping a 12-9 decision.
 
The Golden Knights return to action next Saturday, March 11 playing in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The Golden Knights meet Wittenberg at 12:30 p.m. and the face host Washington & Jefferson at 3:00 p.m.
 
LA SALLE 16, GANNON 4
Gannon fell to the Explorers for the third time but battled until an 8-0 third quarter allowed La Salle to pull away. The Explorers led 7-2 at the half. Freshman Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) led the Golden Knights with two goals but La Salle held a wide 45-21 advantage in shots and shot 35.6 percent compared to 19.0 for Gannon.

SIENA 12, GANNON 9
A tight match saw Siena gain the lead in the third period after the two teams were tied at 5-5 at the half. Gannon held a 3-2 lead after one quarter as Jade Strickalnd scored twice. The Saints grabbed the lead for good early in the third quarter as they ran off three straight goals for an 8-5 lead. Josie Frisina (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) ended the run with a goal but Siena would lead 9-6 after three quarters. Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) scored for the third time to pull the Golden Knights to 9-7 on a penalty shot with just over six minutes left, and her fourth goal made it 10-8, but back-to-back Siena goals held off the Golden Knights.
 
While being outshot 31-22, Gannon ended with one of its best shooting efforts, converting 40.9 percent while Siena was at 38.7 percent. Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) paced the Golden Knights with four goals and a pair of assists while Josie Frisina (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) added two goals and an assist.
