Delorenzi and Gannon Sit in Fourth Place after 36 Holes at Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – The Gannon University men's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of the 54-hole Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff. A total of nine teams are playing in the three-day event at the par-70 Saddlebrook Course at Saddlebrook Golf & Tennis Resort.
 
Ashland maintained its lead following two rounds with a four-golfer 298 total for the second round, good for a 36-hole total of 581. McKendree is nine stroke back at 590 after shooting a 290 total on Friday, the low team total of the day. St. Thomas (Fla.) climbed past Gannon by a stroke for third place and sits at 592, with the Golden Knights shooting a second-day total of 306 for a 593 total.
  
Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy) followed a one-over par 71 on Thursday with a 74 on Friday and sits in fourth place on the individual leaderboard. Delorenzi opened with a triple-bogey seven on the first hole but birdied hole Nos. 5, 6 and 7, all par fours.
 
Ashland's Matthew McMullen and Kade Cannon of St. Thomas (Fla.) are tied for the individual lead after 36 holes at 139. McMullen had the low round of the day with an even-par 70. Gabriel DeCasa of Ave Maria is third at 143 with Delorenzi two strokes back at 145.
 
Ryan Ferry (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) is in a three-way tied for 12th place with a two-day total of 149 after following Thursday's 72 with a 77 on Friday. He picked up a pair of birdies on No. 13 and 14.
 
Shaunak Rama (Bryanston, South Africa) is tied for 15th at 150. The junior shot a 78 after an opening-round 72. His round included a birdie on the eighth hole. Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) went from a 72 to an 82 on Friday with a pair of birdies in his round. Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) and Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) round out Gannon's lineup. Holmes rebounded from an uncharacteristic 82 to shoot 77 on Friday for a 159 total, good for 29th place. Wareham shot 80 on Friday after an 81, with birdies on his first and last hole. He is tied for 31st.
 
Dylan Flinchbaugh (Saegertown/Saegertown) is playing as an individual and sits in between his two teammates in 30th place. He shot a 78 on Friday for a 160 total.
 
The men's golf team is competing for the first time since a fall season when it won five tournament team titles and five individual titles and then placed second in the PSAC Championships.
 
The Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday.
