Ferrer, Pool Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Team

ERIE, Pa. – The United Soccer Coaches today released its men's soccer All-Region teams. Gannon had a pair of players named to the United Soccer Coaches Division II All-Atlantic Region Team. Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) and James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) were accorded second team honors. Both players were previously named to the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region first team.

Gannon just completed its season on Saturday as the Golden Knights enjoyed a historic run in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Billy Colton's team entered as the sixth seed in Super Region 1. The Golden Knights opened NCAA action with a 2-1 win at Millersville, the number three seed. Next came a 2-1 upset of No. 2 seed Charleston (WV) in the Sweet 16.

In the Elite Eight Gannon battled defending national champion Franklin Pierce, the top seed, before finally falling 1-0. The Golden Knights ended the year at 18-2-2, tied for the second-most wins in school history.  

Ferrer and Pool played a huge role in the team's success. Ferrer was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year and is now a two-time All-PSAC West first team honoree. The sophomore from Valencia, Spain led a Gannon defense that held opponents to 20 total goals and an average of 11.7 shots per game. He was a catalyst on offense finishing with seven goals and 15 assists for 29 points. He leads Division II in assists and ranks fourth in a season at Gannon. Unfortunately Ferrer missed the final two playoff games with an injury.

Pool, a redshirt senior from Hastings, England, enjoyed a breakout season offensively. He entered the season with two goals in 30 career matches but he finished with 17 goals and six assists for 40 points, ranking second on the team in goals and points. Pool is tied for fifth in Division II in goals and is sixth in points. He was a first team All-PSAC West selection.
