Gannon Among Teams Receiving Votes in WBCA Division II Preseason Poll

Golden Knights to face two nationally-ranked teams this weekend

LILBURN, Ga. – The WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Women's Basketball Coaches Poll was released today as the 2023-24 season tips off later this week. Gannon is among "others receiving votes".

Defending national champion Ashland is the unanimous favorite to repeat, receiving all 23 first-place votes after finishing at 37-0 last year. Minnesota State Mankato is second in the poll with Grand Valley State third. Catawba was voted fourth and Tampa was picked to finish fifth. Gannon will play Tampa later this week on Sunday, November 5 in the D2CCA Tip-Off Tournament in Billings, Montana. The Spartans were 33-2 a year ago.

Tampa is one of four nationally-ranked teams on Gannon's schedule. The Golden Knights will see two of them this weekend. In addition to Tampa on Saturday, November 4 they will face 19th-ranked Angelo State (26-7). The Golden Knights host Division II runner-up Glenville State (33-3) on Friday, November 10 and will play 13th-ranked West Chester at the Highmark Events Center on December 19.

Gannon finished at 29-5 a year ago, reaching the PSAC Championship for the third straight year and making the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row. Head coach Cleve Wright's Golden Knights open the season on Friday, November 3 against Texas A&M-Kingsville in the D2CCA Tip-Off Tournament.
