No.10 Golden Knights celebrate senior day with 4-0 shutout win over Cal (Pa.)

After just scoring one goal in the first half, the Golden Knights erupted for three second-half goals en route to the senior day win.

The No. 10 Gannon men's soccer team celebrated senior day by extending its unbeaten streak while improving to 13-0-2 on the year after defeating Cal (Pa.) at McConnell Family Stadium. The Golden Knights who are now the number one team in the PSAC West, improve to 6-0-1 and are two games ahead with three PSAC West games left in the year. Cal (Pa.) dropped to 3-11-1 overall and 1-6 in the PSAC West.

Notables How it Happened
  • With just two minutes into the match, Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule) connected with Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) on a corner kick that found that back of the net to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Ferrer's goal was the only tally of the first half even though Gannon held a first half advantage in shots, 10-0.
  • The offense came alive in the second half for Gannon. A long through ball from Gabriel Delin (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymansium) gave Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) a 1-on-1 opportunity with the Cal U goalie with Katsande capitalizing and placing the ball in the left bottom slot of the goal to jump ahead 2-0.
  • Three minutes later, at the 65:27-mark, Toby Gower (Norwich, England/Long Stratton) passed a through ball to James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) who extended the Golden Knight lead 3-0.
  • Gannon's final goal of the match was scored  from Peter Wagner (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) via the assist from Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) and went on to seal the win for the Golden Knights.
Inside the Numbers
  • Gannon ended the contest with an advantage in shots (24-2) and corner kicks (8-2).

  • Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) added his 13th goal of the year after finishing the night with three shots.
  • James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) tallied his 10th goal of the year, while Peter Wagner (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) notched his first of the season.
  • Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule), Gabriel Delin (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymansium), and Toby Gower (Norwich, England/Long Stratton) all added assists to help power the Golden Knight offensive effort.
