Thanks to his hot start during Gannon's first two weekends,
Abe Holmes (Barrie, Ontario/Barrie North Collegiate) was selected as the PSAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week for the second time this season on Wednesday.
The Gannon senior claimed his second title in Gannon's second tournament of the fall season on Saturday when he won the Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational in a playoff while helping Gannon win by 22 shots.
Holmes shot 3-under-par 69 in the final round on Saturday to tie teammate
Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) with a two-day total of 3-under-141 at Lake View Country Club. In the playoff, Holmes birdied the par-5 No. 1 hole and parred No. 2 to claim the title.
Holmes then placed third while helping the Golden Knights to a third tourney title in Gannon's Howard "Bud" Elwell Invitational on Sunday. He shot a 2-under 70 in the first round before the tournament was shortened to 18 holes because of inclement weather.
He also earned the PSAC Athlete of the Week award on Sept. 7 after Holmes won the season-opening California Vulcan Invitational.
Holmes and Gannon will return to action Sunday and Monday at the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial tournament at The Country Club of Meadville.
