Women's soccer team set for PSAC West showdown against rival Mercyhurst

Golden Knights to visit Lakers on Wednesday in matchup of top 2 teams in standings

The top two teams in the PSAC West women's soccer standings will meet on Wednesday afternoon when Gannon visits rival Mercyhurst.

Mercyhurst, which is 5-1-1 overall, leads the PSAC West with a 5-0-1 conference record and 16 points in the standings.

Coach Colin Petersen's Gannon squad, now 4-1-2 overall, is in second place with a 3-0-2 PSAC West mark and 11 points. Both teams lost their season openers and have not lost since.

Mercyhurst has won two games in a row since tying Slippery Rock. Gannon tied Seton Hill 1-1 on Saturday after shutting out Edinboro and Clarion in back-to-back games.

The Golden Knights and Lakers finished as the top two teams in the PSAC West standings in 2021. Mercyhurst went 12-3-1 in the conference with 37 standings points, and Gannon was right behind with an 11-2-3 record and 36 points.

This season, Mercyhurst's Karah Van Horn is tied for the lead in the PSAC with five goals. Gannon's Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) and Mercyhurst's Emily Mijares are among six players tied for fifth with three goals apiece.
