– The Gannon women's lacrosse team will wrap up the 2022 campaign on Saturday with a short road trip. The Golden Knights will head south to face crosstown-rival Mercyhurst in a 1:00 p.m. contest at Saxon Stadium.

Gannon has faced a brutal stretch to finish the season, facing the top four teams in the PSAC West over the last two weeks, with the final three games on the road. It has resulted in three straight losses after head coach Jennifer Pawlowski's squad had played inspired lacrosse and close matches prior to that.

The Golden Knights come into the season finale with a 5-11 record and are 3-8 in the PSAC West. Mercyhurst owns an 12-4 record and is 8-3 in PSAC play. The Lakers have won four straight contests and have clinched a PSAC Tournament berth.

One example of how well Gannon has played this year is the first meeting with Mercyhurst. The two squared off on April 5, with the Lakers escaping McConnell Family Stadium with a 9-8 win. The contest featured five ties and four lead changes. Macy Hepditch's (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) fourth goal with 2:37 remaining pulled the Golden Knights to within 9-8, but they were unable to come up with the equalizer.

Pawlowski has molded a young team into a much-improved unit that features several dependable scorers. Five different players have scored 20-or-more goals. That has not happened since the 2015 Gannon edition had six players with 20-or-more goals.

McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) has a narrow lead in points with 36 goals and 10 assists for 46 points.  A sophomore who was the 2021 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, she stands second on the team in goals. She earned second team All-PSAC West honors a year ago after leading Gannon in goals (40), assists (60), and points (46). She ranked sixth in the PSAC in goals.

Hepditch, also a sophomore, has 31 goals and a team-high 14 assists for 45 points. Freshman Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) has taken over the team lead in goals with 40, scoring three times in last Saturday's loss at 22nd-ranked Seton Hill, adding four assists for 44 points.

Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) have 25 points apiece. Jacobs has scored 24 goals, while Tufts adds 21 plus four assists. Tufts led the PSAC in goals in 2020 with 22.

Pawlowski has employed both Cheyenne Jess (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) and Kendra Delissio (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) in goal, with Jess seeing the majority of action of late. The senior has 96 saves and a 14.85 GAA in 654 minutes. Delissio has played 283 minutes and has a 9.98 GAA.
