Petersen Named PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for Second Time

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon freshman Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) has been named the PSAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week for this past week. It marks the second time Petersen has earned the honor.

A native of Denmark, Petersen led Gannon to first-place finishes in both the Mercyhurst Spring invitational and Gannon Spring Invitational while battling tough weather conditions both days. She finished in a tie for first with teammate Ana Maestro (Seville, Spain/Albaydar) at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational. Both shot 79s, with Maestro winning the playoff with a par on the 18th hole compared to a bogey for Petersen.

Playing in the Gannon Spring Invitational the next day, the freshman shot a 76 (+4) to finish second, a stroke back of the lead. Strong winds buffeted the players that day. Unplayable conditions forced the cancellation of the second round the next day.

Petersen has proven a revelation after joining the Gannon program at midyear. She shows a 78.4 average in eight rounds, the lowest average on the team. She has finished in the top ten in all five tournaments as a Golden Knight.

Petersen and the Golden Knights will look to defend their PSAC championship this weekend. Gannon is the two-time defending PSAC champion and seeks its third straight crown this weekend. The 54-hole tournament runs from Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24 in Kutztown, Pa.
