LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon's Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) has been recognized by the PSAC as this week's Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Mitchell, a senior guard from Halethorpe, Md., averaged 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and also chipped in nine assists, nine steals and three blocks for the Knights last week. The senior shot 57 percent from the floor and made six 3-pointers during Gannon's 3-0 week against PSAC West competition.
 
Mitchell began the week with nine points, six rebounds and five steals during Monday's win at Edinboro. Mitchell also chipped in three assists and three blocked shots against the 'Scots. On Wednesday at Clarion, Mitchell scored a season-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. She shot 7-of-13 from the floor and made four 3-pointers against the Golden Eagles. She wrapped up the week with 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals at Slippery Rock.
 
Mitchell and the Golden Knights will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26 against California (PA) on senior day. Tip is set for 1 p.m. at the Highmark Events Center.
