FINDLAY, OHIO -- The Gannon University women's golf team is in ninth place among 17 teams through one day of the University of Findlay's William Beall Invitational.

The Golden Knights finished Monday's 36-hole, opening day with a total of 635. That put them 42 shots behind tournament leader Findlay, the defending NCAA Division II national champion.

Gannon struggled in the first round at Findlay Country Club with a 321 total as it finished the first 18 holes tied for 12th place. The Knights improved in the second round with a 314, rising to as high as seventh place before settling the day in ninth.

Freshman Zoey McClain (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led Gannon with a 12-over-par 156 (77-79), which was tied for 28th place. Junior Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) was one stroke behind her with a 157 (80-77).

Gannon's scoring was rounded out by Ana Maestro (Seville, Spain/Albaydar) (80-80-160), Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) (84-78-162), Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) (89-82-171), and Elena Pany (San Pedro de Alcantara, Spain) (89-85-174).

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
